2/11/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap
Our February 11th session was full of counters, and another Tentative Agreement–this time on Academic Rights & Responsibilities. We’re quite proud of this article, which affirms that LACs are faculty, and that we fulfill important educational, research, and service roles within the University. It also clarifies that all LACs are eligible to serve as Principal Investigators on sponsored projects.
During the presentation of our counter on Workspaces Health & Safety, Bargaining Team member Scott Dennis delivered thorough and frank testimony about restroom conditions to underscore the importance of this issue to our membership. In that same article, administration made some movement on lactation spaces, which we take as a positive sign.
In other news regarding counters, we rejected administration’s article on Felony Disclosure on the basis that it is racist and does nothing to keep campus safe. We also found administration’s counter on our Grievance & Arbitration article to be insulting, as it stripped away our ability to resolve contractual disputes through a third party using arbitration, as granted to other unions on our campus including the lecturers.
Highlights of the bargaining session:
We reached a TA on Academic Rights & Responsibilities, bringing our total TA count to 9!
LEO-GLAM shared 5 counters (Union Rights, Felony Disclosure, Academic Rights & Responsibilities, Workspaces Health & Safety, Grievance & Arbitration)
Admin shared 4 counters (Workspaces Health & Safety, Grievance & Arbitration, Discipline & Dismissal, Academic Rights & Responsibilities)
We especially encourage you to join us for next week’s bargaining session, when we plan to pass our salary proposal. February 18th is a milestone, since all proposals are supposed to be on the table, so we expect it to be an exciting day of negotiations. See you at bargaining next Friday.
