1/21/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap
Our January 21st session was an action-packed day that involved multiple new proposals and multiple counters on both sides. We were able to reach a TA on the Holidays, Season Days & Emergency Closures article, after 7 passes back and forth! We’re pleased that Admin agreed that when our buildings are closed (on Christmas Eve, for instance) we should have the option to work remotely without being forced to take a vacation day. We were also able to reach a TA on Accessibility & Accommodations, which made this a 2-TA day. We’re making good progress and the bargaining team has fallen into a productive rhythm.
While it came as no surprise, we were disappointed to see Admin’s Felony Disclosure proposal, which would require all felony charges (not just convictions) be disclosed to HR, which could then take disciplinary action. While it was presented in a manner that couched it in “keeping campus safe,” we know that the criminal justice system in this country is deeply flawed and disproportionately impacts people of color.
Highlights of the bargaining session included:
Reached 2 TAs (Holidays/Season Days/Emergency Closures, Accessibility & Accommodations)
LEO-GLAM shared 3 new proposals (Grievance & Arbitration, Discipline & Dismissal, Information & New Hires Reporting) and 2 counters (Academic Rights & Responsibilities, Accessibility & Accommodations)
Admin shared 2 new proposals (Felony Disclosure, Recognition) and 5 counters (Medical & Family Leaves, Academic Rights & Responsibilities, Workspace Health & Safety, Holidays/Season Days/Emergency Closures, Accessibility & Accommodations).
We expect the next 4 weeks to be eventful, since our ground rules require that all initial proposals are on the table prior to February 18th. Check our proposal tracker to keep up with the action, and we hope to see youat bargaining next Friday.
