LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap for 2/26/2025

At our February 26th bargaining session, we wrapped up all of our first passes with the much awaited Salary article, beating the deadline for first passes laid out in our ground rules by a full two weeks. From this point forward we will continue to volley counter-proposals back and forth. Naturally, salary is a key issue for our bargaining unit, and we heard this directly from a majority of members across the bargaining unit during our bargaining survey process. We look forward to seeing the salary counter that management will return to us in the coming weeks.

We also presented an MOU about LAC staffing to support the Flint campus community, where attrition for LAC positions has shrunk LAC staffing by nearly 50% in the past decade. Currently, just 5 librarians and 1 archivist serve the entire campus of approximately 5,000 undergraduates and 1,500 graduate students. You can follow the progress of articles being passed using our Article Tracker.

Highlights of the bargaining session included:

  • Reached two Tentative Agreements on Articles XVII: Workspaces, Health and Safety and XXXIII: Work Schedules, Modes and Locations. This brings our TA count to 13.

  • Presented a petition endorsing our bargaining platform, signed by an overwhelming majority of our membership.

As a reminder, we will take a break from bargaining next week (March 5), but we’ll resume bargaining at the table on Zoom on Wednesday, March 12th. LEO-GLAM members can register for the link at https://bit.ly/GLAMbargaining25.

The following week (March 19), we’ll be bargaining in-person on the Flint campus, and hope that you can join us and invite interested members of our UM campus community to attend our open bargaining session. Please register in advance for the March 19th session; once you’ve registered, we will email you all of the logistical details that you’ll need in order to attend–we’re happy to help coordinate carpools and parking, and we’ll even feed you lunch!
