LEO Elections 2024
Dear LEO Member:
According to the LEO constitution, the Union holds elections every year (Article XI). Additionally, the Campus Councils have included in their bylaws elections for stewards and additional officers in the GLAM unit. Voting for all positions will take place online. Voting will open on Friday, March 8, 8:00 AM and will close on Thursday, March 14, 5:00 PM.
Union Council
The Union officers and the Campus Chairs serve on the Union Council, the governing body of the Union. Officers up for election in March 2024 are Vice President, Treasurer, and the GLAM Campus Chair. The duties of each officer are articulated in Article XII of LEO’s constitution, which can be found at leounion.org/resources.
To be eligible for office, a person must have been a LEO member in good standing of the Union for one (1) year prior to the date of the election. All such members are invited to run.
LEO members may now begin collecting signatures in support of their candidacy for Vice President and Treasurer, using the attached Nominating Petition. A potential candidate’s petition must be signed by at least 20 LEO members in good standing and include signatures from at least 3 campuses. Signatures may be electronic. If you are running for campus chair/co-chair, no signatures are necessary. In addition, all candidates must submit a self-nominating personal statement of no more than 500 words, which will be included with the ballot. If you have any questions about the Union Council positions please contact Kirsten Herold at fogh@leounion.org.
As part of the nominating process, potential candidates are required to affirm on the petition that they have read and will comply with the attached Elections Committee Policies and the Candidate Rules.
Petitions and statements must be received by the Committee no later than Wednesday, February 7th at 5:00 pm. Potential candidates should submit their documents to the members of the Elections Committee (emails below).
The candidate for each office who receives a simple majority of votes will be declared elected. The results of the election will be reported to the membership by email on Friday, March 15th. Successful candidates will assume office on May 1st.
