5/6/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap

Our May 6th session saw more progress and movement in the right direction, which is encouraging. We reached a momentous TA on Package 6, a 6-article package that includes the right to Grievance & Arbitration, which we have been fighting for since the beginning of negotiations. The package also included some movement from admin in the Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment article, where management agreed that outside employment only needs to be disclosed to the University if it poses a potential or actual conflict of interest or commitment, bringing this in line with the current SPG regarding COI/COC. In Discipline & Dismissal, we won the essential standard of “just cause” and finally have a documented and clear procedure for a progressive disciplinary process.

On the other hand, while the counters on Professional Development and Salary made a nod towards movement, we are still disappointed in the meager offers being proposed by admin. Their “big move” on PD was to offer a mere $600 per person, which is far less than the cost of attending even a single conference. In their Salary proposal, they went up by a disappointing $1,000 at each level of minimum salary, and proposed a scant 2% annual increase in each of the 3 years of the contract. When it comes to salary equity, management has expressed that they “have no shared interest” in our proposed adjustment table, and instead have offered a 1% increase for those making below the median for their rank, except at the full rank, where they proposed a 2% increase. That’s still not our idea of equity.

Highlights of the bargaining session:

  • We reached TA’s on Package 6 (Conflict of Interest/Commitment; Non-discrimination; Harassment; Discipline & Dismissal; Felony Disclosure; Grievance & Arbitration), as well as on the MOU on Collections Acquisitions Activities, bringing our total TA count to 31!

  • Admin shared counters on Package 4 (Union Rights; Management Rights; Scope of Agreement) and counters on Professional Development, Salary, and the MOU on Collections Acquisitions Activities.

We look forward to seeing you at Bargaining again next Friday!
