4/1/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap

Our April 1st session (no fooling) was largely centered on big packages. Administration has been passing us a series of ever-larger packages, this time bundling 7 articles together.

We’ve had some questions from members about packages and how they work, so here it goes. Packages are essentially groupings of individual articles passed as a single unit, which have to be accepted or rejected as a unit. The theoretical strategy behind passing packages is that concessions can be balanced to maximize the value to each side. If one side rejects that package, it’s considered withdrawn, and the side that passed it can revert to its previous terms.

While administration has expressed this intention at the table, we have unfortunately not seen their packages fulfill the level of compromise that would compel us to accept them as-is. We hope that we can continue to negotiate to reach consensus on many of these articles in the coming weeks.

Highlights of the bargaining session:

  • LEO-GLAM shared 3 counters (Layoff & Recall; Discipline & Dismissal; Medical & Family Leaves)

  • Admin shared a package of 7 counters (“Package D”: Information & New Hire Reporting; Work Schedules & Locations; Posting, Hiring & Notification; Workload; Scope of Agreement; Management Rights; Union Rights)

If you haven’t signed our petition yet, please join us in affirming our shared commitment to equity, accountability, and transparency for our contract!

For those of you observing Ramadan, we wish you a Ramadan Mubarak. We look forward to seeing you at Bargaining again next Friday!
