3/18/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap

Our March 18th session saw us making progress on a number of articles passing back and forth as counters. You may note that some of these have morphed from their original forms–for instance, our initial proposal on Non-Discrimination and Harassment, where we continue to hold our position, has been split into two separate articles. This is also the case for the Promotion article, which we proudly passed today.

Promotion was part of a longer proposal from administration, but we’ve split it apart because we think it needs some special attention. For one thing, we’ve proposed that all members of our bargaining unit should have the same number of ranks (4) whereas currently some members have 4 while others have only 3. We also want a consistent and transparent promotion process across all units, and our proposal clearly outlines this process. We’ve recommended a streamlined process that will alleviate some of the burdens associated with both preparing a promotion dossier, as well as lightening the load on the evaluating committee members by establishing a single, centralized committee for all LAC promotions.

We once again discussed the issue of bathrooms, and hope that a resolution is in sight.

Highlights of the bargaining session:

  • LEO-GLAM shared 8 counters (Workload; Work Schedules & Locations; Appointments & Performance Reviews; Promotion; Non-Discrimination; Harrassment; Posting, Hiring & Notification; Workspace Health & Safety.)

  • Admin shared 4 counters (Workspace Health & Safety; Benefits; Posting, Hiring & Notification; Unpaid Leaves.)

We look forward to seeing you at Bargaining again next Friday, and also hope that you will invite a friend or two and join us next Thursday for a Labor Teach-In, featuring special guest speaker Emily Drabinski. Finally, don’t forget to vote in the LEO elections, which close tomorrow at 5 PM!
