3/11/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap

Our March 11th session marked our return to bargaining after a 2-week hiatus during Spring Break. The bargaining committee used this time to begin work on counters to the proposals on our side of the table (to follow along, see our Proposal Tracker), 3 of which we passed today. We were glad to TA the Vacation Pay article. Additionally, we passed a new proposal on Posting, Hiring & Notification, which should be the last new proposal (and this time we really mean that).

Admin spent a considerable amount of time today asking questions about our salary proposal. We continue to emphasize the need to address salary inequities for our members, and our salary proposal seeks to ensure that people are compensated adequately and equitably across units and campuses. Sadly, admin rejected our attempt to clearly delineate librarian, archivist, and curator duties in our Recognition article, and seem to prefer defining our bargaining unit by our current classifications. This is problematic because other academic union contracts—LEO Lecturers and GEO for instance—define the work performed rather than relying on a title or classification.

Highlights of the bargaining session:

  • We reached a TA on Vacation Pay, bringing our total TA count to 10!

  • LEO-GLAM shared 1 new proposal (Posting, Hiring & Notification) and 3 counters (Recognition; Benefits & Benefits Eligibility; Union Rights).

  • Admin shared 2 counters (re-packaging Union Rights together with Management Rights; Recognition).

We hope to see you at Bargaining again next Friday, and also hope that you will encourage potential supporters in your life to attend our upcoming Ally Meeting, hosted by the Solidarity Committee next Thursday. Finally, if you’ve made it this far, a quick reminder that LEO elections are now open—don’t forget to vote!
