1/7/22 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap

At our January 7th session LEO-GLAM resumed passing both new proposals and counters, and continued to make good progress, including reaching a TA on the Personnel Records proposal.

We engaged in substantive conversations about our workspace health and safety, and specifically discussed the conditions of our bathrooms—which need to be safer, cleaner and more accessible—as well as the need for lactation spaces in our buildings. Thanks to those of you who shared your bathroom stories with us in Slack; let’s keep that participation coming!

We also pushed to standardize our probationary period from the current 2-year period (in place for most LACs), to a 6-month period in line with other UM employees.

Highlights of the bargaining session included:

  • We made a formal information request for Air Change Per Hour rates re: ventilation in GLAM workspaces

  • LEO-GLAM shared 3 new proposals (Workspace Health & Safety, Probationary Period, Authorization of Union Dues) and 2 counters (Special Conferences aka “Union & Employer Meetings”, Holidays/Season Days/Emergency Closures)

  • Admin shared 1 new proposal from admin (Management Rights) and 5 counters (Holidays/Season Days/Emergency Closures, Vacation Pay, Personnel Records, Union Rights, Special Conferences)

  • Reached another TA (Personnel Records), bringing our running total on TA’s to 4

We also plan to hold Impact Bargaining negotiations related to COVID-19 with admin beginning this Wednesday, where we will advocate for enhanced safety measures.

You can check our Proposal Tracker to stay informed about the status of proposals as they are introduced. We hope to see you at bargaining next Friday.
