Lecturer Bargaining Update: Bargaining Recap for 3/8/2024

After our break last week, we were back at the table on Friday working towards a new agreement. In the morning, we reached tentative agreement on our Workload and Collegiate Lecturer articles, and we passed counterproposals on Health & Safety, Faculty Support, Teaching Professor, and International Lecturer Assistance Fund.

After lunch, admin passed back their most recent salary counter proposal. Needless to say, we were unimpressed. Their counter contained only an additional 0.25% increase to the annual salaries in Flint and Dearborn (to a total of 1.75% each year). That’s all - no new money in longevity, no increase in Ann Arbor, and no new money in the minimum salaries. The message from admin was clear: if we insist on parity, that means holding all salaries down. After careful consideration, we sent back a counter where we held all of our previous positions (flat-rate annual increases, longevity increases, and wage parity) and cut $1,500 off of our minimum salary proposals. This small move communicates our commitment to keeping a brisk pace to negotiations.

With each week, conversations get higher-stakes. We need to work together to make decisions that fully represent our union. We need to activate ourselves and build a movement to push our priorities across the line. It’s time to get involved and make your voice heard! Here’s what’s coming up for members and allies:
