12/17/21 LEO-GLAM Bargaining Recap
At our December 17th session we received the first proposals passed to us from admin including Special Conferences (meetings between the Union and the Employer), Term of Agreement (length of the contract), Scope of Agreement (stipulating when particular articles may be renegotiated and what outside the contract may be enforced), and Printing/Distribution of the Contract. We were able to reach a TA on the latter.
We also received several counters from admin on proposals that we passed the week prior, including on Holidays/Season Days/Building Closures and Non-discrimination and Harrassment. We were disappointed that admin rejected our expanded language in the Non-discrimination and Harrassment proposal, but we will continue to fight for the rights of LACs to have workplaces that are free of harassment and discrimination. We will begin work on a counter proposal in the new year, and invite members who are interested to join the Bargaining Committee.
We were also proud to advance a proposal on Leaves that addresses the inadequacies of paid time-off especially as it relates to Childbirth and Extended Sick Leaves. You can check our Proposal Tracker to stay informed about the status of proposals as they are introduced.
Highlights of the bargaining session included:
Received 4 proposals and 2 counters from Admin;
Reached a Tentative Agreement on Printing & Distribution of the Contract;
Passed new proposals about Union Rights, Personnel Records, Benefits Eligibility, and Leaves;
Continued to advocate for member testimony in the Ground Rules
We are pleased to see movement at the table, and anticipate that several more new proposals will be passed when we reconvene. We will return to bargaining in the new year, on January 7th, 2022 and invite members to join us.
