Lecturer Bargaining Update: Bargaining Recap for 7/9/21

Final July Session was a Short One

We presented on Professional Development, Governance, and Retiree Email Access.

Our counter on Professional Development came down on the amounts on the three campuses to levels that would still support many applications at the higher per-person cap of $1500 that admin granted last time. We also dropped the appendix with the request that HR fix the website in Dearborn to align with the other two campuses by enumerating eligible expenses that are covered by the fund. HR is working on this now.

We provided a counter on Governance that reinstated our request that each school and college on all three campuses that has not done so already shall hold a vote on lecturer governance rights but with an extended deadline of Fall 2022.

Finally, we dropped the MoU on Retiree Email Access. As we said at the table, it is petty and “mean” that the administration refuses to grant this basic request for the handful of people who would want it, but we let it go to find alternate ways to help them and to move negotiations forward. In dropping this MoU, we are demonstrating that we continue to bargain in good faith by continuing to make movement at the table. This is a clear demonstration that the University’s Fact-Finding is unnecessary. Please refer to our email on Thurs July 8th for more information

Some Bargaining Team members are taking a much-needed and long-planned rest over the next couple of weeks, so we will not return to the table until Wednesday, August 4. It is possible some small group discussion on various issues will happen in the interim.

If you attended the General Membership Meeting yesterday, you received an update on negotiations and the campaign timeline, including upcoming actions. Please feel free to ask questions in the Questions Form, and make sure to fill out the Commitment Form to participate in the actions. Everybody needs to step up to win a strong contract.

Lecturers march with a LEO banner demanding Dignity, Parity, and Respect.
